Vlasis Vlasidis is (2013-) an Assistant Professor at the University of Macedonia,
Department for Balkan, Slavic and Oriental Studies, in Thessaloniki, Macedonia,
Greece.
He took his Ph.D. in Contemporary History in 1997 from the Aristotle University of
Thessaloniki, Greece.
In 2001 he was given the Marshall Memorial Fellowship of the German Marshall
Fund of the United States. He has held the position of Head of the Documentation
Department of Macedonian Press Agency (1995-2004), a public news agency now
merged with the Athens News Agency (ANA) and Director of the Research Center of
the Museum for the Macedonian Struggle, Thessaloniki, Greece (2001-2004). He was
lecturer (2003-2009) and Assistant Professor (2009-2013) at the University of
Western Macedonia, Department for Balkan Studies in Florina, Greece.
He is specialized in Contemporary History, Refugee issues, Politics of memory,
Communist Issues, Media history, and the history of WWI in the Balkans.
Member of the Academic Committee of the Research Center of the Museum for the
Macedonian Struggle, (2004-). Member of the Academic Committee of the Historical
Archive for the Greek Refugees, Kalamaria, Greece (2913-) and member of the
editing Committee of the Scientific Journal Thessaloniki published by the Center for
History, in Thessaloniki, Greece. He was given a medal from the Consulate of the
Russian Consulate in Thessaloniki (2016).
